Fire Stopping: Enhancing Safety Around Electrical Distribution Equipment

During a recent Fire Risk Assessment of a new Client, breaches in fire compartmentation were found in the ground floor lobby where cables and pipes passed vertically through the ceiling and floor near the electrical distribution equipment. These breaches compromised the building’s ability to contain fire and smoke, a key safety measure in fire prevention.

To address this, a contractor installed certified vertical fire stopping materials at all identified breach points. This ensures gaps around cables and pipes are sealed, preventing fire and smoke from spreading between floors.

With the work now complete, the building's compartmentation has been restored, strengthening overall fire protection. This proactive approach not only secures critical electrical infrastructure but also protects the safety of the building’s occupants.

Proper fire stopping, especially around high-risk areas like electrical systems, is essential for preventing the rapid spread of fire. Regular assessments and timely interventions like this one are critical for maintaining a safe and compliant environment.
