Youngest member of Block Management UK Ltd accounts team awarded MAAT

The youngest member of our accounts department has become the latest team member to pass an important professional diploma whilst working for Block Management UK Ltd in accounting services.

Tommy Lewin – who has been with us for a little over three years – had previously completed the Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3) awarded in conjunction with the Association of Accounting Technicians. He has now also passed the Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4) and holds the position of Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT). It is an internationally recognised qualification and AAT full membership is an internationally recognized status in accounting and finance. It demonstrates a high standard of education and experience to employers and clients, along with a commitment to development and keeping your skills up to date.

Tommy studied with West Suffolk College, who we thank for their support and great teaching of him.

Looking back over the course, Tommy said:

“I particularly enjoyed adding to my on-the-job knowledge of financial statements for limited companies and business tax. The course sections on budgeting have helped me with the responsibilities of my job in drafting budgets and planning ahead for our client RMC’s financial year. In addition - as our clients are classed as dormant companies - it has been useful to cover the applications of business tax. In addition, it has helped me undertake advanced bookkeeping, final accounts preparations and indirect tax.

I found the synoptic exam for the Level 4 qualification extremely tough; it required a high level of written skill and a lot of review of all the previous material I studied.“

The "Synoptic" assessment is a computer-based assessment introduced in the new AQ2016 syllabus which pulls together the knowledge learnt from other modules.

David Collinson, Managing Director of Block Management UK said:

“Block Management UK Ltd is keen to encourage young talent like Tommy to make the most of the opportunities open to them and improve their career prospects. It’s good for them and, as an employer, it is particularly good for us because we enjoy a motivated team whose value for our customers increases as time goes on. Continuing professional development has seen several of our staff achieve professional qualifications, particularly within the property management department.”

Tommy now takes a well-earned sabbatical as he applies his new skills to the job. However, he does intend to continue his studies with a course in chartered accountancy which will most likely be ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) accredited.
